Meet Sue Bampton— founder and lead designer at Grotec.

For over 30 years on the Gold Coast, Sue and her team of landscape designers and horticulturists have helped homeowners, builders and businesses shape sustainable, subtropical gardens that are beautiful to live in and easy to care for.

Sue’s Story:
Raised on practical horticulture and a love of the outdoors, Sue blends design thinking with deep plant knowledge. From coastal courtyards to acreage retreats, she focuses on site-responsive gardens that feel grounded, inviting and alive through the seasons.

Design Philosophy:
Gardens should nourish daily life. Sue designs for climate, soil and water first — then layers texture, colour and purpose. Her work often blends edible, medicinal and ornamental plants so spaces look good, taste good and do good.

  • Sue is the real deal. What started as a few ideas and a mood board has become a thriving new garden and emerging oasis in our backyard just seven months later. It is spring 2023 now and flowers are popping up all over the place, continually delighting us. We can’t wait to see how it all unfolds over the next few years, especially the feature tree (Crepe Myrtle) in our front garden.

  • Could not recommend Sue and her team more highly. Such a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. So professional whether it was Sue, team in the office or Anthony the landscaper. Final result is whenever I walk outside I smile.

  • After moving into our home 2 years ago, we spent a lot of time contemplating how to landscape the front of the house. Luckily we found Sue and the Grotec team who converted our ideas into an exciting transformation. From the start they listened to our thoughts and we found them extremely knowledgeable and professional. Together with a great landscaping construction team headed by Anthony, the results are beyond our expectations. Thank you Grotec!

  • Sue has a vast knowledge of plant life and landscaping and obviously enjoys her work immensely which translates into her doing a great job. I am so pleased with our outcome based on Sues advice as to what to keep, what not and what new to plant and how to get the maximum effect from pruning etc etc and she is such a delightful person to work with – a genuinely warm and caring person to boot.
